Bedford School 1st vs  HMC Singles
On: Tuesday, 08 Oct 2019
Venue: Away

The Berkshire Red Course played host to this year's edition of the HMC Singles, with all of the main golfing schools well represented. We were in a position whereby both of our reserves were allocated playing places, so a team of 4, M, Harry, Fin and Wilf, travelled down to Ascot.

There was a steady 2 club win for most of the day, which built into a 3 club wind for half an hour amid a deluge. The rain hit as Wilf was on the 14th, M on the 11th green, Harry on the 11th tee, and Fin on the 8th green. At that time, all of the boys were well placed, particularly M and Harry both at level par.

M dealt with the conditions better than most of the field, and narrowly missed a chip on 18 for birdie which would've tied the lead. He knocked in a tricky downhill right to left putt from 4ft to maintain his level par score.

Harry and Fin both closed on +4, with Wilf suffering on his last few holes to close at +7. Umbrellas and trolleys strongly recommended in the future!

All around, a fantastic effort from all four of the boys. We secured 3rd place in the team event, from a strong field of 16 schools. The bus journey home was enjoyable: M added another KFC to the spreadsheet, Harry had a disgusting iced coffee, I enjoyed sushi, and the 'tunes were blaring' - ref Harry.
