Match Report
Bedford School 1st vs  Uppingham School Mixed-U18A
On: Thursday, 15 Oct 2020
Venue: Away

We travelled to Luffenham Heath to play Uppingham in the HMC Foursomes. Despite driving through a torrential downpour just before Peterborough, we were spoiled with a mild mid-October day when we arrived. The course was in good knick, though the greens haven't yet recovered from the hollow tining a couple of weeks ago.

Lawrence Jefferys & Jack Peters were sent out in the first match. Jack hit the first shot of the match, a solid 3wood that just missed the fairway left, which the boys then did their best to lose by looking in the wrong area for a while. When they did eventually find it, Lawrence found the green from a tricky lie and the boys moved 1up. The boys hit fairways and greens relentlessly, and walked out winners 9&7.

Alex Robins & Freddie Tucker played the third match, with Freddie finding the fairway off the first, hitting his signature draw with his 3wood. The boys played with smiles on their faces throughout, and seem to be gelling as a pair wonderfully well. They also ran out comfortable winners, 8&6, finishing with a birdie 2 on 12.

With the result in the bag, Finlay Cummings & Louis Densham had fought back from 2 down to all square through 13 when it was decided to figuratively shake hands and get back on the A1 to Bedford. They assure me that they were on the path to victory!

The services off junction 17 offered all of the fast food outlets that the boys wanted and stories of the day were regaled, not least my chip in for birdie on 7 to move to -2. I think it was Elbow that sang 'one day like this a year will see me right'.
